𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝑪𝒓𝒚𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒅 𝑨𝒕 𝑩𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒉

Ezra Tiel (aka Bird Poet aka TRENDGENDER fka Their Government Name) is a transsexual criminal with a bachelor's degree in History. They are the author of four chapbooks, each published by lovely independent presses: BLOODMUCK (The Atlas Review), The New Jersey Devil Washes The Blood Off (L'Ephemere Review), BAITED MEMORY (Ghost City Press), Invention of the Mouth (Dream Pop Press). Themes of their work include mental illness, disability, gender and sexuality in context, working class solidarity and concerns, state repression, historical narration, addiction, and other survival tactics. They were the last Grand Slam Champ of Loser Slam and have competed and toured internationally as a spoken word poet. In 2016 they co-presented the first gender non-conforming writing workshop at a Poetry Slam Inc. event during the Women of the World Slam, for which they were also a consulting graphic designer, in 2017 they were the first transgender host of the Texas Grand Slam final stage, and in 2018 they won the Charter Oak Award for Best Historical Poem and co-won Sundog Lit's inaugural collaboration contest. Individual pieces from their long-term ongoing projects, which are divided and scattered among magazines and mediums, have been nominated for multiple Pushcart and Best of the Net prizes, and they have work in the 2017 Bettering American Poetry anthology.
